Though you may not have heard of it, you've probably already seen it. The Lykan Hypersport was one of the main featured cars in Fast and Furious 7 and is being billed as the first Arab supercar in existence. It's the work of Dubai-based W Motors, a company founded by Ralph R. Debbas that is dedicating itself solely to building high-end luxury sports cars that cost seven figures. So what's the cost of the Lykan Hypersport? A whopping $3.4 million.
This is a company that makes no qualms about the fact that they're only trying to appeal to the elite of the elite. And with all of the wealth in existence in the oil-rich parts of the Middle East, it does business sense to try and manufacture a vehicle that's based in the area. While it doesn't signal the start of a practical motor industry for the Middle East designed for regular consumers, it's certainly a start.
So what do you actually get with that $3.4 million? Find out below.
The Specs of the Lykan Hypersport
It is more about status than actual performance, but it's certainly not lacking in specs. It features a 3.7 liter 780bhp, twin-turbo flat-six mid-rear engine that has been taken from Porsche tuner RUF.
And thanks to the 770hp and 708 ft.-lb of torque pulse that goes through a six-speed sequential, as well as a seven-speed PDK gearbox to the rear wheels, it achieves a 0-100 km/h performance of 2.8 seconds. In fact, it can reach a speed as high as 395 km/h, which is the equivalent of 245 miles/h. It also has a surprisingly decent mpg, since it gets 24 mpg on average.
So What Makes It Different?
Despite its high price tag, W Motors has not designed the Lykan Hypersport to be at the top of the line in terms of its specs. In fact, it already assumes that its clientele already has other luxury sports cars. Instead, the Lykan Hypersport is supposed to be something different. And it certainly is, representing the cream of the crop when it comes to luxury service.
For starters, its seats are stitched with gold thread and there's a center display that is holographic.
The meat of the package is the global servicing system that it includes. All the driver has to do is press a button and a technical advisor will appear to provide assistance. Furthermore, W Motors will send a team of “flying doctors” to wherever you are in the world to assist you.
Also included is a 24/7 concierge service that is invite-only and a Swiss luxury watch by esteemed designer and watchmaker Franck Muller.
The Future of W Motors
W Motors is trying to initially appeal to the elite in the Middle East, but they have more ambitious long-term goals of appealing to the wealthy from around the world.
They plan to release a “Supersport” model for $1.6 million and a more affordable SUV for “just” $250,000.
With a bigger factory to be built in Dubai later this year, time will tell if W Motors ends up lasting. They're certainly going all out to try to make an impression.
