How To Register An Imported Vehicle In Vietnam: Process & Procedure
One of the things you should be aware of before importing and registering a vehicle in Vietnam is that there are some restrictions and, in some cases, heavy taxes involved. Registering a used vehicle is not only a difficult process, but it is also an expensive one. If you are importing a used vehicle, you must be its original owner.
Before applying for registration, any vehicle imported into Vietnam must clear customs. You will have to present all the relevant paperwork that’s related to the shipment of the vehicle at this time: customs declaration, bill of lading, and payment of import duties. It should be noted that there is an additional tax on imported vehicles that can exceed 50% of its value.
After your vehicle has been imported and cleared customs, you need to apply for registration within three days. The vehicle will also have to pass a vehicle inspection test (see Roadworthiness Inspection below) to be legally driven in Vietnam.
Roadworthiness Inspection
The roadworthiness inspection is a basic test to ensure that the vehicle has all the necessary safety features in working order and that it meets local environmental standards. Additionally, the inspection also includes brakes, turning signals, and the steering column. Once the inspection is passed, you will receive a sticker to be placed on the windshield indicated the vehicle is roadworthy.
