Military Car Shipping
Do you have a home near the base? Then driving down is a great idea, unless you don't want to deal with the tension on occasion. Then there'll be the option of shipping.
You may be limited in the type of vehicle you can ship in depending on the laws of the military base. More information will be available from your transportation officer.
To avoid any delays or complications, gather all of your needed shipping documentation. These materials are critical and must be available at all times.
Preparing your car for Shipment
- Before turning in the vehicle, turn off or otherwise disconnect any installed auto alarm or anti-theft device. - If the vehicle is delivered by someone other than the servicemember, a signed letter of authorization and a certified copy of the members' power of attorney, or other acceptable evidence of agency, are required.
- Make certain that your point of view is free of blemishes. Only use a dry vacuum. A POV with dirt, soil, or muck on it, particularly the undercarriage, will not be accepted by the VPC.
- All pockets and compartments should be emptied.
- Make a note of everything you're shipping in the POV so you can double-check that you have it when you pick it up at your destination.
Military Motorcycle Shipping
Some bases may not allow motorcycles, so verify with your transportation officer before shipping or driving one down.
You won't be able to mail it unless you have proof of ownership or proof that the owner has given you permission to do so.
Preparing your motorcycle for Shipment
- Clear any substantial dirt from your motorcycle and inspect the wheels and tires for soil deposits.
- Make a note of any damage you find, such as scrapes or dents.
- If the bike is running, check the fluids, battery, and tire pressure.
- Remove all accessories, loose items, and alarm clocks from the room and put them in a safe place.
