The Models Most In Demand
General Information
While it's fairly easy to determine which new automobiles are selling the most in the United States thanks to the plethora of monthly updates that are available, being able to determine which used cars are selling the most is much more difficult in terms of accuracy. However, through combining multiple sources of used cars sales data, it is possible to see which models are the most popular.
The List (In Order)
10. Ford Escape
Compromising just over 1% of all of the used car sales in the United States, it also sells for an average price of $17,400. This is a fairly good price for the vehicle on the used market, but of course, that means that it will have to be in good condition and not have too many miles on it.
9. Chevrolet Malibu
It's neck and neck with the Ford Escape as far as used car sales go, with it just edging it out by a hair. The Chevrolet Malibu sells for a price of around $15,000 on average, which is also a fair value for the vehicle.
8. Chevrolet Impala
The Chevrolet Impala comprises 1.3% of the used car market, which is enough to beat out both of the aforementioned vehicles. Selling for an average price of $13,000, it continues to remain popular as a fleet vehicle.
7. Toyota Corolla
With 1.6% of the used car market, it sells for around $13,000. It's an extremely popular vehicle, both new and used, and its owners seem highly willing to put it on the market after a few years of use, perhaps to upgrade to the latest model.
6. BMW 3 Series
Though it's BMW's basic luxury sedan, it hasn't sold as well as they would have hoped initially, but on the used car market, it is faring much better. It has around 1.8% of the market and sells for a fairly decent price of around $24,000 in many cases.
5. Ford F-150
This could be considered a tie with the BMW 3 Series since they both make up around 1.8% of the market. The sales percentage that they both have isn't the only thing that is close. The Ford F-150 sells for around $23,000 on average, making it close in sales price, too.
4. Honda Civic
Consistently ranked as one of the safest vehicles in terms of being reliable, the Honda Civic is used a great deal by its owners, which affects a number of miles that it has on it. That still hasn't stopped it from taking 1.9% of used car sales and selling for an average price of $13,300.
3. Nissan Altima
An extremely reliable car as well, this gives the Nissan Altima a high price on the used car market, since it commands an average of $15,000 even if it's an older model. It makes up around 2% of the total sales and shows no signs of slowing down.
2. Toyota Camry
Making up around 2.2% of the total used car sales, it sells for around $15,000 on average. It's even more popular than the Toyota Corolla, and it looks like it will remain at the top of the charts for the foreseeable future.
1. Honda Accord
The car that holds the title of the best selling used car is the Honda Accord. Selling at a similar price to the Toyota Camry at around $15,000 as well, it makes up around 2.3% of all used car sales. It's a reliable car that is extremely popular with families.
So there you have it. These are the top 10 models of used cars that are sold. It's not possible to have the raw figures of how many units are sold, but nonetheless, this is a good list to go by. AutoTrader.com is a good source of used cars for sale.
