Clearing Chinese Customs Procedures.
Any vehicle that is used and refurbished are not allowed in China. Used vehicles can be imported as long as it passes through restrictions. Items that are prohibited include diesel engine vehicles, right hand driving vehicles, and motorcycles. China has their own customs rules and regulations in place which determine what vehicles will be accepted and how they will be taxed. Some of these rules and regulations include:
- Only left-handed vehicles allowed.
- No vehicles that use diesel are allowed, except for jeeps.
- Cars are taxed based on the engine capacity. Vehicles are a luxury in China so that subjects them to high tariffs. Foreign experts as well as companies with bases in China could be exempt from paying this high tax.
- You, the owner of your vehicle, will need to be present when your vehicle is processed at port.
You need to make sure that your vehicle meets all noise and exhaust rules and regulations in China before you begin the process of importing. It is critical to consider that you will be needed to show that the vehicle is in compliance of the rules and regulations set forth in the Chinese Air Pollutant Control emissions regulations.
You will need to get a quote from A1 Auto Transport Service. Arrange for a door-to-port pick up or unload in the United States. We work with you to help you gather up all the necessary documents needed for shipping. You must have your customs declaration within fourteen days of importing.
Once your paperwork is submitted, you will need to wait for a ‘Notification Of Motor Vehicle Provisional Taxable Value’ form which will be determined at the China Transport Department. Before you can register your vehicle in China, you will need to have your vehicle examined at the Vehicle examination center. You will receive a letter of approval once it passes from the Department of Environmental Protection which states that your vehicle complies with the emissions standards. In order to get your car registered, your application will need to be submitted.
Once your information is verified using your documents, you will then need to pay your registration tax, registration fees, and pay for your license and Traffic Accident Victim Assistance Fund levies to license the vehicle. When you ship your vehicle over to China, there are a number of documents that you are required to have:
- Invoice with the date it was purchased on it.
- Written application that goes with the declaration of import cargo.
- Proof of age of the vehicle.
With rules and regulations, there are a few other steps that you must take before you can ship your vehicle. You will need to check to make sure your brakes are working properly and the fuel tank should only be one-fourth full. Your personal belongings are not allowed inside the vehicle during transport with the exception of a spare tire.
Choose Affordable Shipping Methods.
When you are ready to prepare for your import, you will first need to pick the right shipping method for you. A1 Auto Transport Service can assist you in determining which method would best work for you. Here are the two choices:
Roll On/ Roll Off Shipping - the vehicle will first be driven onto the ship, strapped down for security, and then driven off the ship when it reaches port.
Container shipping - Your vehicle will first be loaded into a cargo container, either 20 foot or 40 foot in size. Once it is loaded, you can fill the rest of the container up with household or personal items that you want to take with you to China. Vehicles are secured in place and then loaded up on the ship for transport. Once it reaches the port in China, your vehicle will then be unloaded and processed. This method of shipping is very expensive, more so than the Roll On/ Roll Off shipping method however it does add more protection to your cargo than the Roll On/ Roll Off method.
