Procedures for import of vehicles
Bulgaria is now a part of the European Union and that means that the rules as in any other EU country will apply to Bulgaria. You will need to first clear the vehicle so it can pass through customs following the regulations.
National Customs Agency of Bulgaria will require that your vehicle being imported will be declared only on a temporary basis. You will need to pay a guarantee for the vehicle so you can get it through customs. The amount of the guarantee will depend on the make, model, and year as well as the kW and the BHP. If the vehicle stays within Bulgaria for more than one year, you will be able to renew the temporary importing certificate you registered for originally.

If your vehicle is not coming from a country that is part of the EU then you will need to pay taxes of up to 17% of the value of the vehicle.
The standard VAT is 20% and is determined by calculating the value of the total goods. Insurance cost, as well as import duty, can also be due as well. Excise taxes are calculated in and determined by the authorities of Bulgaria after the vehicle has been inspected. Diplomats that are importing a vehicle will be able to do so duty and tax-free.
Shipping Requirements.
In order to confirm that the shipping agent is familiar with the requirements, you will need to let them know what you plan to do. The documentation must be submitted to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency with at least seventy-two hours prior to export.
You will need to be sure that your vehicle is eligible for international shipping. The laws comply with the U.S Code of Federal Regulations however you may want to contact the Bulgarian Customs to find out more about rules and regulations on shipping.
Shipping Method.
You will need to choose between Roll On/ Roll Off shipping method or the container method as these are the two most popular ways to import a vehicle over the waters. Burma has five ports to select in order to import. Not all ports will accept the Roll On/ Roll Off method of shipping so you may want to check with the ports you are most interested in exporting from to see if they accept this method if you are choosing this method. Roll On/ Roll Off shipping is the most affordable way to ship a vehicle across seas. You will only be able to have a car jack, a spare tire, and floor mats in the vehicle when you transport it.
Container shipping is an option that many will choose if they want their vehicle transported in a container where it is safe and free of exposure to weather. Containers can also be shared by another individual who may also be willing to share the cost with you.
