Hauling can be accomplished quite easily as long as you know the regulations necessary. You will need to have paperwork filled out and documents available for customs when planning to move overseas from the United States. Seville is a city in Spain that does not have some of the stringent import laws that many areas around the world have, but some customs regulations will have to be followed. Your agent will go over the paperwork required as well as let you know the mandatory documents they will need to deliver for you. The basic paperwork that you will need for the company will be:
- Driver’s License
- Social Security Card
- Original Title to Vehicle
- Power of Attorney (Signed)
- Auto Insurance Certificate
Requirements to Import
The Customs Department at the entry port will require documents to import into the country. Your agent will assist you with getting the documents properly filled out or you can contact the Embassy of Spain in Washington, DC for more information on paperwork needed to go through customs.
These are the primary documents necessary to import from the United States:
- Must have the Original Bill of Sale
- Must have the Original Title and Registration of the Vehicle
- Must have Passport
- Must have two documents that show the chassis number of the automobile
Specific regulations are very lenient. You must own it for at least six months before importing and will need to have it registered once it reaches to get insurance coverage. Your current United States auto policy will not be valid for use while driving in Spain. All vehicles on the roadways must have an emergency kit in the car as well as emergency cones in case the auto breaks down while on the road.
What To Do Before You Move
You need to make sure that you and the agent discuss in detail the required paperwork and the type you will be doing. The agency will give you a finalized quote that will cover the type, pick-up, and delivery if needed, and fees that will be included in the final billing. They will also go over anything you need to do to prepare to be delivered, including steam cleaning if necessary, cleaning out personal items from the interior, or removing accessories from the exterior. They will let you know before making the arrangements what you will need to pay before moving as well as anything you will need to pay upon arrival. For more information on international customs regulations you can also contact the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency and they help you locate paperwork and can also provide information on regulations for exporting items internationally.
Ways to Move
There are several ways to haul internationally. These are the ways you will choose from when making plans to have it hauled:
Ro-Ro- It is the most efficient and quickest way to move overseas. It will be driven onto the ship and secured to make sure it is stable and will be driven off the ship when it reaches the port. For Ro-Ro your car must not have any personal items inside of it, so you will need to thoroughly clean it.
Container method- Your vehicle will be placed inside a secure 20 or 40-foot container and then loaded onto a freight ship. It is the more expensive way to haul overseas, but you will have room to move personal items inside the container as well as inside it.
Air Cargo- Moving by air is the fastest way to have it where you need it. It will either be driven onto the Cargo plane or will be placed inside a container and then loaded onto the plane for travel. In Seville, it would go through the customs checkpoint upon arrival at the San Pablo Airport in Andalusia, Spain.
Your agent will work with you to make sure that hauling goes as smoothly as possible. For more information on the cost internationally and what procedures you will need to follow you can check out this article.
