Once you have provided all of the necessary documents and filled out the paperwork required to ship your vehicle internationally you will also need to choose the type of shipping your vehicle will be transported with and pay your shipping costs. The cost of shipping will be based on your car type and weight, the mileage from the United States to Sale and the type of transport that will be used to ship the vehicle. Your transport agent will go over all cost associated with shipping overseas and will let you know what you can and cannot pack inside of your car as it is being transported. Some methods of shipping, such as Ro-Ro Shipping do not allow personal items to be shipped with the vehicle. Ro-Ro is designed to ship motor vehicle by sea on a ship designed specifically for the transport of motor vehicles. Cars are rolled (driven) onto the ship, securely placed in their spot and then rolled (driven) off when the ship reaches the exit port. Only vehicles are allowed to be shipped Ro-Ro, so no personal items may be left inside of the vehicle during transport. Other shipping methods such as Container Shipping are beneficial when transport is needed for both your vehicle as well as personal items. All items, including the vehicle, are loaded inside of large shipping containers and then onto the ship for transport. Once the container ship reaches the exit port the containers are unloaded from the ship and the contents can be removed for the customs checkpoint.
Customs Regulations in Sale
Anytime a vehicle or other goods are brought into a country, they must clear a customs checkpoint. Customs in Sale will require that your vehicle is within five years of the date of manufacture from the date the vehicle is imported to the city. The customs representative will complete an inspection of all necessary paperwork as well as perform a full physical inspection of the vehicle to make sure it is safe to be driven in Sale. As long as everything checks out correctly and you have provided all of the necessary documents, your vehicle should be cleared rather quickly at the checkpoint. One thing you may want to consider is that if you are shipping personal items at the same time you ship your car, you may want to ship them in separate containers as it occasionally takes longer to have a vehicle cleared with customs than it does personal items and it you will need your personal material quickly it is best to have them shipped alone.
Typically you will need to provide the following legal documents to Customs:
- Passport
- Import Permit
- Bill of Lading
- Title of Vehicle
- Bill of Sale or Commercial Invoice
