Uruguayan Restrictions
It’s important to know what restrictions are enforced when it comes to shipping to Uruguay. If you are a citizen of Uruguay and have been living abroad for three years, you will be allowed to import your vehicle back into the country. The vehicle will need to be registered in your name during that time. You can apply for this through the Ministry of Finance for importing Authorization. The restrictions are not so hard on new vehicles however; these new vehicles that are imported will be taxed as per the current laws. You can contact the Embassy of Uruguay in the United States for further questions.
Import Related Documents
You will need to bring proof of your vehicle along the way. From the time that you request that your vehicle be imported to the time it reaches the new port, you will need to provide proof which includes:
- Car purchase invoice
- Owner’s Passport
- Ocean Bill of Lading
- Freight insurance policy
- Import permit
- Ministry of Economy and Finance authorization
Departure Requirements
In order to prepare your vehicle for transport, it must meet all the rules and regulations of importing. You will need to first be in contact with the U.S Customs and Border Protection Agency. Before your vehicle can be bordered onto the ship, it must be proven to be free of any liens against it. The only exception is if the individual or company that is holding a lien signs a document stating that you have permission to take the vehicle out of the country.
You will have a choice between a shipping container and the Roll On/ Roll Off shipping method. If you choose the container, you will be able to load your vehicle up in a container that best fits what you are importing. Once your vehicle is inside, you can then load all your personal items up in the container as well. You can fill the container up with personal and household items. Once it’s loaded, it will be sealed up and then placed on the deck of the ship for the transport. You can choose from a 20 foot or 40 foot container. The container will protect the vehicle from any harmful weather elements.
If you choose the Roll On/Roll off shipping method, you will need to do a few things to prepare your vehicle prior to your shipping date. These requirements include:
- Steam cleaning your vehicle
- Removing all accessories attached to your vehicle
- Removing the air conditioning gas
- Leaving only 1/4 tank of gas
- Leaving a set of keys, a spare tire, and a car jack inside
One of the shipping representatives from A1 Auto Transport service will be able to go over these rules and regulations with you prior to the shipping date.
