Foreign Travelers Entering There
If you are a foreign traveler relocating you will need to provide customs with your Passport as well as a Visa showing at least 3 months residency permit. You’ll have to have your Airway and Seaway Bill and an authorization letter to handle it. You will also need it title and the bill of sale that shows you have owned the car for one year or less.
Citizens
You will need your passport and it must be stamped within six months of importation. You also need your bills and a handling authorization letter. Your car title and bill of sale must show your name and it must also show that the car was purchased in the last year before importing.
Diplomats
You will need your passport as well as an Egyptian Diplomatic ID. You will need to get a Clearing Letter that can be obtained from the Egypt Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
All vehicles whether new or used are subject to pay taxes and import duties. Foreigners who are working for the Egyptian Government or who own their own business may apply for a duty exemption permit for their vehicle. Please be aware that if it is exempted from paying duties you will only be allowed to have it there for six months and will have to export it back to the United States at the end of the six months. Also, it is advisable to move your materials separately because it can take several days longer to process and clear an automobile through customs than it will take for personal material to process and clear.
