While the transport industry has continued to become more efficient and advanced, a question that many customers may have is if the pickup and delivery dates are guaranteed by hauling companies. After all, knowing when your vehicle will be picked up and eventually delivered is very important, as you will have to plan your schedule accordingly. However, the reality is that finding pickup and delivery times that are guaranteed by a company is a rare occurrence. So why is that? Find out below:
Pickup and Delivery Windows Are More Common
The vast majority of companies don't offer a guarantee as it pertains to the exact pickup and delivery times that you can expect. The main reason is that there are too many factors involved that can delay the process, especially unexpected events while driving. As a result, companies don't want to be held to certain promises that they may not be able to keep. Some of the things that can delay pick-up and delivery times are:
- Weather;
- Traffic;
- Construction;
- Vehicle Breakdowns.
So instead of giving specific guarantees, auto transport companies provide pickup and delivery windows instead. These windows can vary, as they can give an estimate of 2 to 4 days, which can be even higher in some cases. Your pickup date will be much more accurate, but the delivery date, in particular, will have a window of at least a few days.
Plan Around Them
Don't plan everything around a specific date. It's better to plan around the window that you are given, whether it means rearranging your work schedule or changing your flight time if you're planning to move. Even though it may seem like an inconvenience, it'll still save you time as opposed to hauling the vehicle yourself in most cases.
Make Sure to Get Updates
More and more companies are now offering free tracking services to their customers. You can even track where the carrier is in real-time in many cases thanks to GPS. Some companies have a website where you can log in to see the last point where your vehicle is “checked in,” similar to a mail delivery service like UPS or Fed-Ex. At the very least, you should be able to call the company to get an update about where the driver currently is.
Ask About Expedited Services
If the window that you're given is too wide-ranging for your comfort, you can also ask companies about their expedited services. This will cost more, but your vehicle pickup and delivery times will become much more prioritized.
Shop Around
One of the ways to also shorten the pickup and delivery windows are to shop around and ask multiple companies about how fast their delivery process will take. Some companies are much faster than others. Sometimes, though rare, you may find a company that is willing to guarantee a specific date that your vehicle will be picked up and delivered, though guaranteeing an actual time is non-existent.
