Senna
Senna is a 2010 documentary about the life and career of famed Brazilian F-1 driver Ayrton Senna, from his debut in 1984 through his rivalry with Alain Prost. It’s not made in the familiar mode of most documentaries with stories and interviews, but rather lets the footage speak for itself, both from races he competed in, as well as video submitted by his family. If you’re unfamiliar with his story, it’s a great piece of F-1 history that details his life both on and off the track in riveting and artistic fashion.

Love the Beast
A tale of the love between a man and his car, as well as the world that formed around that bond, Love the Beast tells the story of actor and the film’s producer, Eric Bana and his first car, a 1974 Ford Falcon. It’s a great watch that details how Bana bought the car at age 15 and went on to both repair and race it as his love of the car grew and blossomed into something much more than he anticipated. The documentary also features input from other famous car lovers as they detail the emotional connection that forms between a man and his car.
Urban Outlaw
Focusing on the life and legacy of British car lover Magnus Walker, Urban Outlaw centers on how he came to turn a keen interest in Porches into a unique business that reflected his creativity and ingenuity. While it’s not a full-length film at only 30 minutes, it’s a must-watch if your interested in the Porsche brand, especially 911s. It’s a very well-made piece of cinema that tells the story of how Walker turned a pet project into a passionate labor of love and eventually a business, all while exploring the passion and appeal behind the Porsche name.
The 24 Hour War
The story of the infamous Le Mans battle between Henry Ford II and Enzo Ferrari and the rivalry that started it, The 24 Hour War incorporates masterful storytelling that details the backstory of one of the greatest racing stories in automotive history. After Ford’s failed attempt at buying Ferrari in the 1960’s, he vowed to dethrone Ferrari as the unquestioned champion of racing by developing a car that would do just that. You may already know the outcome, but we won’t spoil it here as the documentary does an excellent job of setting up the history of both men, what fueled the rivalry, and ultimately, the result of the race which would establish a clear winner.
