Sunday marked the end of this seven day event for collector car enthusiasts located in the beautiful beach town of Monterey, CA. If you live in the area and didn't notice the hundreds of enclosed auto transport carriers coming and going, then you must not have ventured outside. With nearly 40,000 visitors in attendance and thousands of vehicles participating, auto transport companies were kept busy from the beginning to the end.
Monterey Car Week is an annual occurrence in August that encompasses 25 different events and six auctions spread over the course of an entire week. The week concludes with the Pebble Beach Concourse d'Elegance which entails 200 of the most beautiful and well-maintained collector cars in the world rolling onto the 18th fairway at the Pebble Beach golf course to be judged and awarded as deemed fit.
Monterey Car Week 2017 events and auctions feature vehicles of all types, from traditionally restored classic cars to concept cars to cars that cost the same as a low-budget Hollywood film. Some of the more popular auction houses that participate year after year are Bonhams, Russo and Steele, and RM Sotheby, but newcomer Worldwide Auctioneers also joined the mix in 2017. This year drew in slightly lower overall auction sale numbers than in previous years, but multiple records were still set, including a McClaren which went for $15.6 million and an Aston Martin which went for $22.55 million. Surprisingly the total auction sale numbers as determined by vintage insurance company, Hagerty, only amounted to $317 million, a significant drop from $338 million from last year despite multiple record-breaking sales. A representative from Hagerty attested that the steady decline is attributed to the market leveling out since the peak prices of 2014 and does not indicate a decrease in car prices.
Of course, the highlight of the event is the Concourse d.Elegance held Sunday at the Pebble Beach fairway. Here, car collectors, enthusiasts, and the public alike can peruse the crème de la crème of the entire week's fleet. Winners of this monumental event can be viewed here, and some breathtaking photos are available here. Ferrari was definitely the star of this year's show, with multiple models taking part in the Concourse. This was not unprecedented as the car company is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year. The usual players, Mercedes-Benz, Aston Martin, and Bugatti also did not fail to impress with their magnificent offerings during the Monterey Car Week 2017. Feel free to follow up on more details of this week-long extravaganza at the official Pebble Beach Concourse d'Elegance website.
