It’s typical for the cost of shipping a car from Australia to Canada to start at around $3,000 AUD, but the costs can be much higher if you’re shipping a larger car or are shipping to a port on the east coast of Canada. There are a lot of other factors that can affect vehicle shipping costs, too.
If you want to make sure you get an accurate quote for the cost of shipping your car, we highly recommend contacting A-1 Auto Transport or another experienced international car shipping company. What Taxes Will I Pay When I Transport A Vehicle?
Cars built in the US, Mexico, or Canada will be exempt from taxes when imported into Canada, but all other cars are subject to taxes and duties. A 6% GST (Goods and Services Tax) will be levied on the gross value of the car, and you will have to pay additional fees, such as a provincial tax, depending on the province where you’re importing the car.
Visit this page from the Government of Canada for more information about the taxes and fees you’ll need to pay when you ship a car in a shipping container from Australia to Canada.
What Automobiles Can I Import Internationally?
In Canada, you can only bring in a car that’s less than 15 years old if it was built according to the standards of the Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Cars manufactured outside Canada and the US do not meet this requirement, and cannot be imported.
This means that it’s unlikely that you can bring in a right-hand drive (RHD) car from Australia. Cars made in Australia and built to Australian standards will not meet Canadian requirements.
However, there is an exception if the car is over 15 years old. If your car is over 15 years old or older, you can bring it into Canada without worrying about complying with the Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
