Have A Motorcycle Shipped To Your Door
Door-to-door shipping is a very popular transport option for motorcycle owners, largely because it’s much easier (and more affordable) to have a motorcycle hauled to a specific address than it is for other, larger types of vehicles.
As with any other type of vehicle that’s shipped, there are times when a motorcycle is transported on a large truck with other bikes, cars, or trucks. These larger carriers naturally have a more difficult time accommodating door to door shifting requests that require navigating small areas or narrow roads. Any company that offers door to door relocating for motorcycles should be able to provide the appropriate type of vehicle and equipment to have it delivered directly to your door in most cases.
Crating & Palletizing
One thing you might want to consider when shifting a motorcycle, especially using the door to door method, is crating. There are methods of securing a bike that go by different names, but they all do more less the same thing: keep it in place during shipment.
Crating is one of the more popular options along these lines since it offers a way to completely enclose the motorcycle in a wooden, box-like structure. The other option that is widely used is called palletized transport, which is essentially the same thing, but with on a wooden base underneath the bike, rather than completely surrounding it.
Door To Door Motorcycle Relocating Basics
Before you have your motorcycle picked up and delivered, it should be thoroughly cleaned and in good running condition. (Obviously, this shouldn’t be an issue if you’re buying it brand new or directly from a dealership.) It’s important that the bike be both clean and operable so that its condition can be easily documented and it can be maneuvered without difficulty during the transport process.
If, for whatever reason, your motorcycle is not in running condition or has some other type of technical issue, you should make sure that this is communicated to the company you’re getting a shipping estimate from. Special arrangements have to be made for motorcycles that inoperable or having mechanical problems so that they do not cause problems or damage while being transported.
Door to door shifting is slightly more expensive than standard methods because there is extra time and mileage involved with delivering to a specific location. Some addresses that are particularly difficult to get to may have to be content with a drop off that is as close as possible to the location, usually a nearby parking lot or open area where the transport vehicle has room to maneuver.
