What is the Price To Move?
Oahu has long been a popular vacation destination in the Hawaiian Islands. Let’s face it, there are so many cool things in Oahu that spending a day or two is just not going to allow enough time to fully explore the island. Attractions like Pearl Harbor, Aulani Disney Resort, and Diamond Head State Monument are just a few that you’re going to want to take at least a full day or more to explore one at a time. The island also has many activities for families with kids, great places to hike, and the bluest water to swim, surf, or boat in. Oahu is, simply put, an amazing place and one that you will want to spend plenty of time exploring.
With plenty of area attractions and things to do day and night, you may already have plans to bring it along with you. One of the top questions people ask when they want to move is; “How much will it cost to ship?”
This is something that cannot be easily answered upfront because rates vary depending on the size of the auto, the distance between ports, interstate hauling, and even the season you are planning to move in. On average, however, for a standard-sized sedan moving directly from the west coast of the United States, rates can be found for as low as $1000 to haul.
Moving Options
Let’s look at your options for moving and how to prepare for each:
RORO- If you have ever seen a truck carrying a load of cars down the interstate, then you are already familiar with the RORO method. When moving across the ocean, RORO works in very much the same way that it works on the asphalt. Autos are loaded onto the ship by driving them onboard where they are secured in place and then hauled overseas.
Preparing
You will need to prepare ahead of time for the RORO method. To do this, speak to your agent for the details on preparation, but you can also follow a few simple rules:
- Clean inside and out
- Remove ALL personal items including loose CDs, detachable face stereo faces, paperwork, money, umbrellas, and other items (You may leave a spare tire and tire tools in the trunk)
- Drive the fuel down to no more than ¼ tank only
- Remove all mud/dirt from underneath the car
- Take photos of all areas before it is picked up (Save your picture files)
- Check the insurance coverage for the shipment
Container: If you own a classic, exotic, antique, luxury, or other high-dollar car, securing a container is a good idea. This way it is sealed inside where the ocean saltwater, birds, and other elements cannot be encountered during shipment.
